Ani Septiani Adiwinata

Ani Septiani Adiwinata teaches in the Master of Public Policy at SGPP Indonesia. Formerly she is a scientist at CIFOR–ICRAF Indonesia whose research focuses on landscape governance, forest restoration, equity, and local livelihoods. Her work examines forest landscape restoration, community-based climate adaptation, and institutional arrangements that strengthen the resilience of socio-ecological systems, including on small islands. She has contributed extensively to research on the socioeconomic and policy dimensions of community forestry, including small-scale forest plantations, community–company partnerships, traditional agroforestry systems, and their comparison with alternative land-use investments such as smallholder oil palm. She currently leads policy research on timber and non-timber forest product market development and integrated watershed management for livelihoods and biodiversity conservation. She holds a PhD and MA from the Australian National University, where her doctoral research examined strategies to strengthen small-scale commercial tree growing within Indonesia’s state forests.

Fakhrizal Nashr

Dr. Fakhrizal Nashr is a sustainability practitioner and lecturer at SGPP Indonesia with more than 17 years of experience across forestry, conservation, and carbon project development. He led Indonesia's first jurisdictional REDD+ programme in Berau District and facilitated participatory village land-use planning covering over 750,000 hectares — work that combined technical rigour with sustained multi-stakeholder negotiation and embedded ecosystem-based approaches into corporate supply chains. He is currently co-designing a subnational landscape and jurisdictional approach in West Kalimantan through a pilot positioning the province as a requesting entity for CDP disclosure, a structure intended to unlock landscape-level investment and align supply chain actors, investors, and buyers around collaborative landscape action. Alongside this, he mentors civil society organisations across Indonesia in scenario development, policy and action frameworks, and international project evaluation, and maintains working networks that run from village institutions to global climate finance forums.

Gita Wirjawan

Gita Wirjawan is the author of Southeast Asia: What It Takes. He was a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University’s Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center during the 2022–23 and 2023–24 academic years, and a Visiting Scholar at Stanford’s Precourt Institute for Energy in 2024–25. His research examines nation-building in Southeast Asia, as well as sustainability and sustainable development in the United States, India, China, and Southeast Asia. He is also the creator and host of the Endgame podcast, which seeks to democratize access to ideas and bring Southeast Asian perspectives, experiences, and debates to a wider global audience.

Luthfi Adam

Luthfi Adam is a historian of science, environment, and Southeast Asia whose work also engages public policy. He earned his PhD in History from Northwestern University and teaches in the Master of Public Policy program at the School of Government and Public Policy (SGPP), Indonesia. He is the author of Cultivating Power: Botany and Empire in the Dutch East Indies, 1745–1942, forthcoming from Cornell University Press in 2027. His expertise includes the history of science and technology, environmental history, colonial Southeast Asia, the history of knowledge, and public policy. His current research focuses on hydraulic knowledge and urban infrastructure in Jakarta, the relationship between science and business in the history of Java coffee, and traditional medicine in West Java. He is also interested in science communication, public engagement, and the co-production of knowledge between researchers, communities, and policymakers.

Norman Joshua

Norman Joshua is a historian of modern Southeast Asia whose research examines authoritarianism, civil-military relations, and political violence, with particular attention to Indonesia. He teaches in the Master of Public Policy at SGPP Indonesia. His current book project, Fashioning Authoritarianism: Militarization in Indonesia, 1930–1965, explores how military intervention in civilian affairs was shaped by emergency powers, counterinsurgency, and broader social insecurities. He is also the author of Pesindo: Pemuda Sosialis Indonesia (2016). Joshua is a former fellow at the Hoover Institution and previously served as the 2023–24 Shorenstein Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University. He earned his PhD in History from Northwestern University.

Novianto Budi Kurniawan

Novianto Budi Kurniawan received the bachelor’s degree in statistical computing from Politeknik Statistika STIS, Indonesia, in 2003, and the master’s and Ph.D. degrees in information technology from the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia, in 2014 and 2020, respectively. He has been teaching at SGPP since 2020 and is currently the area head for the courses applied statistics for public policy, research methods, and program evaluation in the field of public policy. His research interests include IT strategy and policy, public policy, digital transformation, applied statistics for public policy, research methodology, program evaluation, data analytics, and public value. He is currently conducting research focusing on public policy in information technology and data security, including cybersecurity, personal data protection, AI-based IT service management, AI-based IT infrastructure, and services computing.

Rany Agustina Susanti

Rany Agustina Susanti is an agricultural and food-systems researcher whose work spans cocoa production, agricultural sustainability, and emerging food technologies. She has extensive professional experience in cocoa sustainability, including approximately 7.5 years at Mars Wrigley, alongside research on cocoa production systems, precision fermentation, and cocoa-derived ingredients. Her current research focuses on how emerging technologies and agricultural production systems shape land use and environmental sustainability, with particular interests in life-cycle assessment, greenhouse-gas emissions, resource use, and sustainable food-system transitions. She earned her PhD in Agriculture from the University of Reading in 2023, where her dissertation examined novel canopy architecture for improving yields in intensive cocoa-growing systems.

Safendrri Komara Ragamustari

Safendrri Komara Ragamustari is a faculty member in the Master of Public Policy at SGPP Indonesia. He is a molecular biologist-turned-policy scholar whose career includes a deliberate shift from the biochemistry of plant secondary metabolism to the governance of biological resources at the regional and global scale. Trained at Kyoto University's Graduate School of Agriculture, he redirected his scientific fluency toward how states translate biodiversity into sustainable value without exhausting it — serving as an Indonesian government negotiator at CBD COP15 (Montreal, 2022) that produced the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and contributing to Decision 15/9 on digital sequence information. He has since extended this work into regional health security, leading the design of ASEAN's laboratory network under the ACPHEED Detection and Risk Assessment Pillar through a One Health framework that treats biodiversity loss, zoonotic risk, and ecosystem degradation as interconnected governance challenges. His central focus across all these roles is building policy frameworks that allow nations to derive long-term benefit from their biological heritage without sacrificing the diversity that makes it worth governing.

Yasmin Stamboel Wirjawan

Yasmin Wirjawan is a fellow at Stanford University’s Center for Human Rights and International Justice. Her research focuses on economic participation, climate resilience, and the experiences of women and youth in Southeast Asia. She was previously a visiting scholar at the Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center from 2024 to 2026. Wirjawan brings more than 20 years of experience serving on corporate and nonprofit boards across diverse sectors. She also serves as Independent Commissioner of TBS Energi Utama, Advisor to Ancora Group and Sweef Capital, and leads the Ancora Foundation. She holds a Doctor of Education in Leadership and Innovation and a Master of Science in Management and Systems from New York University, as well as a Master of Science in Finance from Brandeis University.
